Hey there! Volunteers are amazing people who take action, and we’d love for you to join us at Lynchburg Parks and Recreation! By donating your time and talents, you can help make a positive impact in our community. We have opportunities for individuals, families, and groups, so there’s something for everyone!

We know that everyone has busy lives, so whether you want to commit to a regular position or just lend a hand for a one-time project, we’ve got you covered. Come explore our variety of volunteer opportunities—you’ll find a perfect fit!

Center Assistant

We’re looking for friendly volunteers to assist with fun recreational activities and help students with their homework during our after-school program, which runs from 3:00pm–6:00pm on weekdays throughout the school year. We also have summer programs that need a helping hand. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with young people and create some wonderful memories together in a fun setting!

Educational Speaker | Class Instructor

If you have special subject knowledge or a skill that you can share or teach, we are interested in talking to you about your interests.

Event Volunteer

Assist with the Parks & Recreation special events for set-up, break-down, event activities, and other roles as needed.

Group Project

If you are part of a group and looking for a way to serve the community, call to ask about our project needs. Most of these are one-time projects.

Park and Trail Stewards | Groups, Individuals, and Families

If you love spending time in our City’s 17 parks and exploring our 40 miles of trails, we invite you to join our team of Park and Trail Stewards! Volunteering in this role is a wonderful way to enjoy the great outdoors, appreciate nature, and stay active while giving back to your community. You can adopt your own park or trail section, join us for a fun one-time cleanup event, or wander through our parks and trails to help tidy up different areas. Sometimes our gardens need a little love, too! Don’t worry—we provide all the training and equipment you’ll need to get started. If you’re interested and want to learn more, simply reach out to the Volunteer Coordinator for information and orientation. We’d love to have you on board!

ReviveLYH

ReviveLYH is an initiative to bring the Lynchburg community together in the fight against invasive species threatening our parks and natural areas. Through hands-on volunteer work, we’re clearing out harmful plants and reestablishing native ecosystems—one hillside, trail, and green space at a time.

Photographer | Videographer

We’re always on the lookout for enthusiastic photographers to capture the moments at our events and programs! We’d love for you to help us build our collection of beautiful photos. If you’re also skilled in videography and editing, we’d be thrilled to have your talent too!

Youth Coaches

Coaches and Assistant Coaches are needed for Youth Basketball from December–March and Youth NFL Flag Football from March–May.
