Beginning this week, Norfolk Southern will begin replacing the crossties on the high trestle upstream of Hollins Mill Park near the Bikeway Bridge crossing of the Blackwater Creek (Milepost 2.0). Daily construction activities will begin at 8:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, for approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
These maintenance activities will affect trail traffic on the Blackwater Creek Trail, Kemper Station Trail, Creekside Trail, and the Beaver Trail (all sub-sections of the James River Heritage Trail System). While the Bikeway and the other trails will remain open, users can expect intermittent delays as bike and foot traffic will be halted for short intervals.
Norfolk Southern will be using Flaggers posted on either side of the work zone to control the flow of traffic through the site.
Pedestrians and bike riders should employ caution; obey all signs and instructions when traveling in this area.
