The most dangerous knife is a dull knife. Refine your culinary technique by learning basic knife skills. Students will learn sharpening skills, proper knife handling techniques, and review different types of knives, and hands-on practice for different culinary techniques. While knives will be provided, participants are encouraged to bring a personal chef knife from home. Purchasing recommendations are listed on website. Students will get to enjoy a meal on site and take home leftover chopped items. Register by 10/5.
Safety is the top priority at Lynchburg Parks and Recreation as we continue to serve our community members with quality programs. We have implemented the following safety protocols for all of our in-person recreation programs: Assumption of Risk forms, daily health screening questionnaire, social distanced classroom set-up, face mask requirements, hand sanitation stations on site, and regular cleaning of the facilities.
Chef Ronnie Blankenship has over forty-one years experience in hospitality and Food Service. He has worked extensively in all facets of the business, including a number of years at The HOMESTEAD and Greenbrier Resorts.
Ronnie is an American Culinary Federation Certified Executive Chef and holds many other certifications and accomplishments. He is a member of the National Ice Carvers Association and World Association of Chefs Societies. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art and Performing Arts.
Ronnie has been involved in Hospitality Consulting in recent years. Teaching others and helping them achieve certifications. He has also been involved with Christmas Ice Carvings for Downtown Roanoke Incorporated, Dickens of a Christmas, Elmwood on Ice, Bedford Christmas Tree Lighting, Central Virginia Business Association, Roanoke City Public Schools Art Day. Some of Ronnie’s volunteer efforts throughout the community included American Legion, First Responders, Ronald McDonald House and Kiwanis Club.
Ronnie enjoys interaction with all culinarians and aspiring Chefs. And Ronnie will do his best to make sure your experience will be educational, informative and extremely successful. Chef Ronnie is looking forward to meeting you!
