Modern dance is an American dance form started in the early 1900’ that uses ballet steps, but is more fluid and free. Dancers are barefoot and individual expression and creativity is encouraged. Students will learn ballet steps and positions, but dance them in a modern dance style based on the technique of Merce Cunningham, an early American modern dance pioneer. Students dance barefoot and can wear footless tights/leggings and either a leotard or t-shirt. Hair should be secured so it is not a distraction while dancing. Register by 2 days in advance.
