Lynchburg Parks and RecWhat does it mean to be a Junior Naturalist?

As a Junior Naturalist, it will be your duty to protect our parks, trails, and natural areas during your visits, while still having fun along the way! Get outside and explore, and remember to share what you learn with your family and friends!  Also, any person of any age may become a Junior Naturalist!

How do I become a Junior Naturalist?

Complete all of the activities in the free Junior Naturalist booklet and attend two of the ‘Please Do Hug the Trees’ activities listed below. Once you have completed the booklet and activities, return to Miller Center or the Nature Zone during operational hours to receive an official Junior Naturalist certificate and patch.  You can also just complete the booklet, rather than attending activities, but what’s the fun in that?!

Where can I pick up a free booklet?

Junior Naturalist Booklets can be picked up for free at Miller Center or the Nature Zone, both located at 301 Grove St., during operational hours, or at any Lynchburg Parks and Recreation class, activity, or event.

How do I sign up for Junior Naturalist classes/activities?

You’ve taken the first step! Just browse the Junior Naturalist programs below for both free and paid classes that count towards the patch. Don’t forget, the Guinness World Record Attempt Event on Saturday, April 29, 2017 also counts towards your patch!
